You don`t need to have Windows XP state of art service packs, but you do have to reinstall it once in a while, in order to have it works flawless. To improve your Windows XP and optimize it for best performance, the key word is Windows XP updates. Learn how to save and use them for the proper system working.

Open your browser and search for "Windows Update" web site. once you`re in, select "Personalize Windows Updates" option inside of "Other Options". "Set Options For Windows Update" window is opened, check the "Display the link to windows update catalog" box under "See Also" option and then click "Save Settings" tab. When done, go back to the "Windows Update" site and in the left side of the pane, under 'See Also' option select "Windows Update Catalog". Go to "Find updates for microsoft operating system" and search for the particular operating system and language.

The last thing to do is to select "Critical Updates and Service Packs" option and find all the patches to download, click on "Go To Download Basket' option to download them. This should work without any error.
