Securing the Windows XP accounts database

Extending the security levels of your Windows XP is always good idea. Following procedure will secure your Windows XP accounts database.

With special encrypted data stored on floppy disk you can secure your computer, so nobody who doesn't have that start-up disk cannot access the data. Even if you know the password system won't unlock until floppy disk is inserted into the drive.

Procedure of creating such secure start-up disk is very simple. Go to Start - Run and type

syskey

In new opened window click on Upgrade button and follow to the next screen. Next question is option to choose if you want to store the encrypted accounts database locally or on your floppy disk. Choose floppy disk and click OK.

When process is completed you will have special start-up disk that will be required next time you boot the system.
